DIOGO DALOT left fans in disbelief after he failed to score an OPEN GOAL.
Manchester United travelled to West Ham’s London Stadium looking to register back-to-back wins in the Premier League for the first time this season.
Diogo Dalot produced one of the misses of the season
Dalot poked the ball past the West Ham goalkeeper after getting on to a Bruno Fernandes long ball
Dalot only had to slot the ball into an open net
But he somehow managed to fluff his lines and sky the shot
Dalot could not believe his miss
Dalot had the perfect opportunity to set Erik ten Hag’s side on the right path to that goal.
However, he produced one of the misses of the season to sum up Man Utd’s struggles in front of goal.
Dalot had made an attacking run from right-back which was picked out by captain Bruno Fernandes.
The 25-year-old then poked the ball past Hammers goalkeeper Łukasz Fabiański and was left with an open goal ahead of him.
But Dalot fluffed his lines and skied his shot over the bar and squandered the chance to give United a well-deserved lead.
Reacting to the stunning miss on social media, one fan said: “Dalot with the miss of the season.”
A second said: “Dalot has to finish that!.”
A third said: “Dalot just missed by faaaar the worst open goal I’ve ever witnessed.”
Another said: “Lmaoo Dalot now misses an open goal, absolutely ridiculous squad.”
A fifth added: “DALOT, WHAT A BIG MISS!! BRUNO FERNANDES DENIED THREE ASSISTS!!”
Alan Shearer was also scornful of the effort, saying: “Dalot’s miss is one of the worst misses in the Premier League era. We’ll be talking about this in 20 years time.”
Dalot was not the only Red Devils player guilty of missing a good chance in the first half of the match, though his miss was by far the worst.
Alejandro Garnacho crashed a shot against the post early on.
The winger then had a good chance to place a shot into the bottom right corner from the left side of the penalty area, but his shot lacked curl and went wide.
When Casemiro found Fernandes on a late run into the penalty area, he went from creator to shooter, but he missed the mark with a free header.
Rasmus Hojlund also had a chance to score, but Fabianski stopped his quick attempt from a direct line.
Christian Eriksen’s wide free-kick was headed into the bottom corner by Casemiro, but Fabianski was there to stop the visitors once more.
Then United struck the bar from a corner a second time.
Indeed, the half-time stats showed that Man Utd had missed FOUR big chances.
