Man United missed a big number of big goal-scoring chances in their 2-1 defeat to West Ham United on Sunday
The likes fo Alejandro Garnacho, Marcus Rashford and Diogo Dalot were all guilty of missing clear-cut chances that could’ve driven the Red Devils’ to a win.
There seems to be some growing frustration around he role of Man United assistant manager Ruud van Nistelrooy.
With the Dutchman having been a prolific goal-scorer in his days, some fans believe he should do better to fix the player’s goal-scoring issues.
One fan, Luka, raged on Van Nistelrooy’s role in Man United’s goal issues and wrote on X (Twitter): “Has any one seen the impact of Van Nistelrooy ? We employed him to sharpen our strikers…. but since he came, we have missed 22 big chances. Our strikers are not sharp, we are not a threat in attack.
“We only posses at the back. The moment, the ball reaches the forwards, they lose it. Our forwards cannot take on defenders…. they cannot shoot, they cannot score empty nets.. What is Van Nistelrooy doing at the club?”
According to statistics from Fotmob, the away team missed a total of 4 big chances. It should be noted that, along with Tottenham Hotspur, the Red Devils are the team that has missed the most big chances in the Premier League this season (22).
A win for United could see them move as high as eighth in the Premier League table, should results go their way – though a loss would see them fall to 14th, with West Ham going ahead of them should the Irons beat their opponents on home soil. Erik ten Hag is still on thin ice despite not losing in any of United’s past four games and any positive result possible is needed against Julen Lopetegui’s side if they are to finish in the European spots.
