Virgil van Dijk jested at Aston Villa defender Pau Torres during Liverpool’s 2-0 Premier League victory at Anfield on Saturday.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Shortly before Liverpool went two goals up, Villa centre-back Torres appealed for a penalty following a coming together with Ryan Gravenberch. The former Villarreal man went down rather theatrically, leading Reds skipper Van Dijk to mock the big Spaniard, saying, “You’re six-foot-four, mate!”
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Just prior to Liverpool’s second goal, Villa centre-back Torres requested a penalty after colliding with Ryan Gravenberch. The ex-Villarreal player fell dramatically, prompting Reds captain Van Dijk to jest, “You’re six-foot-four, mate!”
The hard-fought victory sent Van Dijk’s side five points clear at the top of the Premier League, following Manchester City’s shock loss to Brighton earlier on Saturday. The visit of Unai Emery’s men proved to be a tough hurdle for Liverpool but they passed that test with flying colours.
