FIRST ARROW: Real Madrid eye 20-year-old La Liga defender for possible January transfer

It has been determined that Real Madrid will make fresh additions to bolster the area during the January transfer window due to the club’s significant injury crisis in the defensive unit.

After suffering devastating injuries to starting defenders Eder Militao and Dani Carvajal to anterior cruciate ligaments (ACLs), Los Blancos are currently on the hunt for a replacement center back and right back.

Aymeric Laporte and Castello Lukeba are two players whom the La Liga winners have mentioned as possible targets for the center-back position.

Lukeba will demand a somewhat larger sum, while Al Nassr is unlikely to reduce its €15–20 million asking price for Laporte, so neither signing will be easy.

Given the situation, SPORT reports that Real Madrid have identified Valencia defender Cristhian Mosquera as a possible alternative to strengthen the heart of the backline in the January window.

As per the report, the 20-year-old was on the Merengues’ radars last summer as well but nothing really came of it. However, it seems like they have decided to reactivate the interest in the centre-back who won the Olympics Gold with Spain this year.

Mosquera has a contract with Valencia that runs until 2026 – with the deal getting renewed in May this year. It saw his release clause go from €25 million to €80 million.

Mosquera though could be available for a lower fee and even though his performances this season have not been at their best, Real Madrid see potential in the 20-year-old and believe he can flourish at the Bernabeu.

It remains to be seen whether this leads to anything or Mosquera becomes another name the rumour mill churned out as Real Madrid scour the market for defensive signings.
