Should Messi learn from president David Beckham in his spare time in the US?
What will Messi do after the MLS season ends?
Lionel Messi’s club season officially ended after a 3-2 loss to Atlanta United on November 10. The result knocked Inter Miami FC out of the MLS title race, meaning the Argentine superstar will have some free time after his Argentina international duty in November.
Lionel Messi
Currently, Messi is training with the Argentina national team to prepare for the 2026 World Cup South American qualifier against Peru on November 20. The question is what will the 37-year-old superstar do in his free time until the end of February next year?
Remember, Messi only returned to competition about two months after Copa America 2024. If the Argentine superstar decides to continue resting, it is not a good idea. Messi is 37 years old, so he needs to maintain a reasonable level of activity if he wants to compete in the 2026 World Cup. The Argentine superstar is still open to this idea.
With the season ending early, Messi could very well consider returning to Europe for a short time. This is exactly what Inter Miami president David Beckham did in the past. While playing for the Los Angeles Galaxy, the former English midfielder played for AC Milan twice on loan for a period of 3 months. This helped Beckham maintain his form and fitness when MLS entered the new season.
Where should Messi go if he returns to Europe?
Messi could do the same as Beckham. Of course, the Argentine superstar needs to choose his destination carefully. The Premier League is definitely not a good idea because of the fierce competition.
Messi to PSG is the most reasonable choice?
If Lionel Messi were to return to La Liga, he would most likely choose Barcelona, which would not only benefit the player personally but also the club in terms of reputation. However, Barcelona are currently in a period of stability under Hansi Flick, with a squad that is mainly made up of young players. Therefore, a reunion between Messi and Barcelona may not be the optimal choice.
Another option is to return to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) under the guidance of Luis Enrique. Currently, the Paris team does not have as many stars as before and is lacking a top-class attacking player like Messi. Luis Enrique is also one of the coaches who understands how to use Messi’s talent best.
Serie A, with its slow-paced style of play, could also be an ideal destination for the former Barcelona star. However, the salary issue would be a major obstacle. Similarly, the Bundesliga could also be an option, but Messi’s short-term use would make many teams think carefully before making an offer.
