Four Liverpool players participated in Sunday’s UEFA Nations League match, with Ibrahima Konate leading France to victory.
As Les Bleus defeated Italy 3-1 in Milan, center-back Konate donned the national uniform and participated in the entire game.
As always, the Liverpool stalwart was aerially imperious but had little to do from a defesnvie perspective until the last 15 minutes or so when Italy piled on the pressure
Konate captained his side in this match and put in a decent performance in defence as he won four duels and made six clearances.
In other news, Curtis Jones made his second senior England start as the team thrashed the 10-man Republic of Ireland 5-0 at Wembley, with Caoimhin Kelleher in goal.
Harry Kane, Anthony Gordon, Conor Gallagher, Jarrod Bowen, and Taylor Harwood-Bellis all scored goals for the home team after Liam Scales was sent off for Ireland in the 51st minute.
Curtis Jones, neat, tidy and industrious in the middle of the park. Another strong display enhanced his England credentials going forward.
Despite he isn’t as influential as against Greece. Still showed flashes of class, raising the tempo with quick bursts
Liverpool’s backup goalkeeper wasn’t tested in the first half but was given a torrid second 45 minutes where he continuously picked the ball out of the back of the net.
First real piece of action was to pick the ball out of his net after Harry Kane’s penalty, for which he went the wrong way. And then it all went pear-shaped – though he could not legislate for the slack defending in front of him.
Jarell Quansah was not employed as a Three Lions replacement. In the same Nations League group, Greece defeated Finland 2-0 in Helsinki, with Kostas Tsimikas playing the entire game.
