FIRE OF CAPTAIN: Liverpool star Szoboszlai celebrates wildly as save a point in 90+3 for Hungary against Germany

Liverpool’s Dominik Szoboszlai netted a late penalty for Hungary on Tuesday night in UEFA Nations League action.

The Reds’ No.8 struck from the spot to earn a dramatic 1-1 draw with Germany at Puskas Arena, with the midfielder scoring in the ninth minute of added time.

Already assured of a place in the quarter-finals, and even top of the group from matchday five four days ago, Germany arrived at Hungary in a relaxed mood.

Unsurprisingly, the match at Puskas Arena was rather dull in the first 45 minutes. The home side had plenty of attacking opportunities but failed to show much against the visitors’ solid defence.

It wasn’t until coach Nagelsmann brought on key attackers such as Florian Wirtz, Jamal Musiala and Kai Havertz in the second half that Germany’s play brightened up.

In the 76th minute, from a corner kick by Florian Wirtz, Nico Schlotterbeck headed the ball but was blocked by goalkeeper Denes Dibusz.

As if waiting for that, Felix Nmecha quickly finished close to the goal, opening the score for the German team.

Hungary tried hard to attack in search of an equalizer and in the 90+9 minute of injury time, the home team was awarded a penalty after VAR determined that Robin Koch handled the ball in the penalty area.

On the 11m mark, Dominik Szoboszlai successfully executed the free kick, equalizing 1-1 for the home team at Puskas Arena.

Holding the German championship candidate, Hungary could not improve their ranking. They were satisfied with third place in Group 3 League A, only having to play the play-off to compete for relegation.
