Dominik Szoboszlai of Liverpool gave Hungary a late penalty kick in Tuesday night’s UEFA Nations League match..
In the ninth minute of extra time, the Reds’ No. 8 scored from the penalty spot to earn a thrilling 1-1 draw with Germany at Puskas Arena.
Germany came to Hungary in a laid-back attitude, having already secured a spot in the quarterfinals and even leading their group from matchday five four days prior.
Not unexpectedly, the first forty-five minutes of the game at Puskas Arena were rather boring. Despite having numerous offensive opportunities, the home team was unable to do anything against the visitors’ formidable defense.
Germany’s play didn’t improve until coach Nagelsmann substituted important attackers like Florian Wirtz, Jamal Musiala, and Kai Havertz in the second half.
Nico Schlotterbeck headed the ball after Florian Wirtz’s corner kick in the 76th minute, but goalie Denes Dibusz stopped it.
Felix Nmecha opened the score for the German squad with a fast finish near the goal, as if he had been waiting for that.
Hungary made a valiant effort to attack in an attempt to tie the score, and after VAR ruled that Robin Koch handled the ball in the penalty area in the 90+9 minute of injury time, the host team was given a penalty.
