Due to the surge in tourism in the city, Virgil van Dijk, the captain of the Reds, has taken on a new position with the travel company Expedia, representing the team both on and off the field.

Liverpool’s inclusion in Expedia’s Unpack 2024 book as one of the top ten globally trending destinations is evidence of Merseyside’s tourism development. The amount of searches for trips to Liverpool has increased by 100% year as visitors from the US, Canada, Australia, Norway, and Ireland pour into the city.

Reds captain Van Dijk has been appointed as Expedia’s new ambassador due to the team’s increasing popularity. In his ultimate travel guide, the Dutch defender has highlighted a number of locations, including the renowned Cavern Club, which helped launch The Beatles’ career, the Royal Albert Dock, and of course, Anfield, where Van Dijk has lived for the last six years.

Van Dijk declared, “I have a genuine passion for traveling.”

“We travel to a lot of cities for football, but we never get to experience them completely, so whenever I have free time, I like to go on an adventure with my friends and family. We both think that we were meant to travel, which is why I am thrilled to be working with Expedia.
