An excellent assist from Mohamed Salah set up Cody Gakpo to give Liverpool the lead during a dominant first half at Anfield on Sunday.

Salah delivered a low cross from the right, allowing Gakpo—who started ahead of Darwin Nunez—to shin the ball over the line for his sixth goal in seven games, while City captain Kyle Walker seemed unaware of Gakpo’s position.

Salah commented, “We train well to ensure that if I have the ball, the player on the other side should be at the far post.” He had told Gakpo before the match that he would look to play him the ball whenever possible, adding that he has also connected well with Luis Diaz this season.

This assist marked Salah’s 100th for Liverpool, a significant milestone in his career. He has been in outstanding form under manager Arne Slot, achieving 36 matches in which he has both scored and assisted in the Premier League, tying with Wayne Rooney for the most in this statistic.

So far this season, Salah has netted 11 goals and provided seven assists, leading the league in contributions. In comparison, Luis Diaz is second for Liverpool with five goals and two assists.

Notably, Salah is averaging more goals and assists and has a higher dribble success rate than during his time under former manager Jurgen Klopp. Acknowledging his impact on the team, when praised for his assist to Gakpo, Salah confidently responded, “Yeah, I’m a good player!”
