Midfielder Jude Bellingham was substituted midway through the half after a collision with the Getafe goalkeeper, raising fears the Real Madrid star could be injured.
Bellingham left stunned after collision with Getafe goalkeeper
Bellingham collided with Getafe goalkeeper David Soria in the 26th minute but was able to see out the rest of the game, even scoring from the penalty spot and setting up Kylian Mbappe to make it 2-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu.
However, the Englishman did not return to the pitch in the second half, replaced by Arda Guler. Real Madrid’s website announced shortly afterwards that Bellingham was feeling dizzy and coach Carlo Ancelotti decided not to risk keeping him on the pitch.
After failing to score in the early stages of the season, Bellingham’s recent strike against Getafe has seen him score in three consecutive games. The former Dortmund player has now scored three goals and provided three assists in 10 La Liga games this season.
According to Real Madrid’s website, the club’s medical team will assess the 21-year-old Englishman’s condition after the match in preparation for the matches against Bilbao and Girona next week. The earliest update is expected to be late Monday afternoon.
In La Liga at this time, Real Madrid after a 2-0 victory over Getafe has 33 points after 14 rounds to close in on the top spot of Barca with 1 point less but playing 1 less match.
