MOHAMED SALAH once again impressed against Manchester City and hinted for the fourth time this season that he may leave Liverpool.
The Egyptian forward secured a vital win with a penalty in the 78th minute, putting the Reds nine points clear at the top of the table.
Having already assisted Cody Gakpo’s first-half goal, Salah expressed that he believes “in his head” it could be the last time he faces Pep Guardiola’s team at Anfield, so he was determined to savor the moment.
The 3 -year-old is set to be out of contract in the summer and mentioned last month that there’s currently no offer to extend his eight-year stay at Liverpool.
Salah remarked, “Honestly, that’s what I’m thinking — this is likely the last game against City for me, so I’m just going to enjoy it. The atmosphere was incredible, and I’ll cherish every moment here. Hopefully, we can win the league and see what happens next.”
He is reportedly seeking a new three-year contract at Anfield, aiming for terms similar to his current deal. However, the club’s owners, FSG, have not met his wage demands, and he knows there are lucrative offers available in the Saudi Pro League.
Salah emphasized his significance to Liverpool’s title chase, bringing his season total to 13 goals. “Scoring at Anfield and winning is always special. We knew City would come to win, but we played well and secured the victory.”
While Salah shone, Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk also performed exceptionally well, as City struggled to create threats and have now dropped to fifth in the standings.
The Dutch defender, whose contract is also nearing its end alongside right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, stated there is still much to play for despite their significant lead. Van Dijk said, “We focus on the next game; that’s all we can do. It’s pointless to get ahead of ourselves at this stage. Everyone wants to be 11 points ahead of their rivals, but there are many twists and turns. We have injuries to manage too. It’s game-by-game, and we need to remain calm. Winning games like this always feels good.”

Dutch forward Gakpo added to his tally against the English champions, following his goal against European giants Real Madrid midweek and the late win against Southampton last weekend.
However, the Merseysiders have no time to celebrate as they face Newcastle on Wednesday and a Merseyside derby next weekend. Gakpo said, “It’s been a big week for us, winning all three matches. Life is good. We’re winning as a team, which feels great. But everyone knows the season isn’t over yet. We must stay focused. Recover well, sleep properly, and train hard. It’s working so far, and we need to keep doing that and stay sharp.”
Liverpool fully deserved their win as City’s recent slump continued — losing a sixth game in their last seven matches.
Gakpo added: “I will not say they are low on confidence but they are not in their best moments. In some moments they showed they are so good on the ball.”
