Kelleher ‘disappointed’ as Liverpool throw away 3-2 lead

Speaking to Amazon Prime after the full-time whistle, the Liverpool manager revealed that Kelleher was ‘disappointed’ in the dressing room after allowing Newcastle to score a late goal against the Reds.

With Ben Foster recently lauding Kelleher’s performances for Liverpool, the 26-year-old goalkeeper will feel like he let his side down after such a costly mistake, with the Anfield side’s lead at the top of the Premier League cut to seven points.

And Kelleher was seemingly frustrated after the game, with Slot saying when asked how Kelleger is feeling: “Like all the players, disappointed. Two times we were a goal down, so in these moments you would have been happy with a point but if you are 3-2 up you’re close to a win.

“He made again today some important saves for us, but he made the wrong judgement in the cross, but it was unbelievable how this defender with his wrong leg could score this goal.”

Slot knows Kelleher will bounce back immediately for Liverpool

Kelleher has been one of Liverpool’s outstanding performers this season, with the Cork-bork shot-stopper one of the key reasons why the Reds have been as good as they have been in recent weeks under Slot.

And the Dutch coach will be fully aware that Kelleher will bounce back from his mistake tonight against Newcastle, with the 26-year-old having the perfect opportunity on the weekend against Everton.

Indeed, Kelleher has firmly proved himself as the best backup goalkeeper in the Premier League, and the Irish star will want to show how good he still is at Goodison Park on Saturday.
