LeBron James passes Kyle Korver for 7th on all-time 3-pointers made list

Lakers star LeBron James surpassed Kyle Korver for seventh place in career 3-pointers Wednesday during Los Angeles’ 134–93 loss to Miami.

James hit the historic shot midway early in the third quarter on a straightaway jumper. It was the only 3-pointer of the game for James, who finished with 29 points, five rebounds and eight assists as the Lakers fell to 12-10.

James tied Korver’s career mark in the Lakers’ previous game at San Antonio. When asked mid-game about being caught by James, Korver sent a text message to TNT’s Jared Greenberg, saying, “Took you long enough.”

A subpar outside shooter over the first third of his now 22-season career, James has slowly added efficiency to his opportunities from beyond the arc. That, combined with his unprecedented staying power as an elite player in the league, has etched his name in record books of categories not normally viewed as synonymous with James, as opposed to scoring (first) or assists (fourth).

This latest achievement adds to an already decorated calendar year for James. The Lakers forward became the first player in NBA history to take the floor with his own son, Bronny James, earlier this seaosn. He also won his third Olympic gold medal during the summer while running away with the tournament’s MVP honor.
