Andre Onana received the backing of Man United skipper Bruno Fernandes after his awful mistake that led to a goal in their 2-1 win over Viktoria Plzen.
Andre Onana had a poor game as Manchester United managed a 2-1 win over Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League.
Onana gave the ball away in his own box in the second half, allowing Viktoria players to score an easy goal.
That allowed them to grab a 1-0 lead, putting pressure on Man United once again. Thankfully, Rasmus Hojlund was introduced off the bench and he scored a brace.
After the match, Fernandes stated: “It is not about Andre making the mistake, we don’t look at individuals here when something happens on the wrong side.
“We have huge belief in him. He knows he made a mistake because he is a clever guy, he is going to help us many times and we trust his qualities on the ball.
“Mistakes are part of football. If they don’t happen then goals don’t happen. But we did well to show the resilience to come back and find the victory.”
However, fans on social media remain unconvinced with Onana.
One wrote: “Andre Onana from last season is back.”
Another cautioned the goalkeeper: “Onana’s been playing way too risky lately, United fans can’t catch a break this season.”
A third added: “Onana always wants to play with ball in his feet even in dangerous situations that need clearance.”
Onana has now made bad mistakes in Man United’s last two games, something Ruben Amorim will need him to fix and return to his best form ahead of the game against Man City.
