Young star Amad Diallo scored the decisive goal to help Man Utd come from behind to beat Man City 2-1. The striker born in 2002 gradually asserted his position in coach Ruben Amorim’s squad.
Amad Diallo returned to play for Man Utd’s first team in the summer of 2023 but was not used by coach Erik Ten Hag. He only made 12 appearances and scored 2 goals and 1 assist throughout the 2023-2024 season.
Amad Diallo admitted that Mainoo and Garnacho helped him a lot during this time:
Asked about his relationship with Mainoo, Amad told reporters: “In the training we try to play together, to make that combination in the training, when we play together like today we try and to make the same things like in the training.
“We are young players, we are motivated to shine here and I hope to continue like this. It’s important to have Kobbie Mainoo in the team. He’s a good player and I have a good relationship with him outside of the pitch, with him and Garnacho. We are happy to play together. I am grateful to them for standing by my side during tough times.”
Amad Diallo is only 22 years old this year but in fact this player has joined Man Utd for 4 years. In January 2021, the Old Trafford team spent 37 million pounds to bring him from Atalanta.
Amad Diallo has been in great form in Serie A, but the fact that Man Utd spent a lot of money to recruit this player has raised big questions among “Red Devils” fans. Most fans think that he will not be able to keep up with the speed and physicality of the Premier League.
The doubts of Man Utd fans were correct, Amad Diallo really could not assert himself after being promoted to the first team, even at the U23, U21 and youth levels of Man Utd. The Ivorian striker was then loaned to Glasgow Rangers and Sunderland for a year and a half
Coach Amorim did not hesitate to remove stars like Marcus Rashford or Alejandro Garnacho, creating a great opportunity for Amad. This also implicitly affirmed a strong message about discipline and fairness in the Man Utd squad.
