Trent Alexander-Arnold, the right-back for Liverpool, has been likened to both David Beckham and Steven Gerrard following his performance against Tottenham.
WHAT HAPPENED?Alexander-Arnold delivered an exceptional performance from right-back as Liverpool dominated Spurs 6-3 in a statement victory. The England international showcased his impressive passing range, with one of his pinpoint deliveries earning him his fifth assist of the season. Luis Diaz latched onto the brilliant cross and headed it past Fraser Forster.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Alexander-Arnold’s contract is set to expire next summer, and he has been linked with a potential free transfer to Real Madrid, as he will be able to discuss a move abroad starting in January. Recently, Gary Neville has drawn comparisons between him, Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard, and England and Manchester United icon David Beckham.
WHAT NEVILLE SAIDSpeaking on Sky Sports, Neville commented: “I was watching (Luis) Diaz in the build-up to the goal, and he’s dropping deeper than (Cody) Gakpo and Salah into positions similar to (Roberto) Firmino’s old roles.
“The cross is something else. It’s precision—there are very, very few players in Premier League history who I’ve seen land a ball like that with such speed, accuracy, and whip. It’s absolutely perfect.
“Kevin De Bruyne, Beckham, Trent, Gerrard maybe in his prime. The pace on the ball is spot-on, and he does really well, throwing his neck back to add a bit of extra power to get it past Forster.”
