Arsenal could surprisingly enter the race for Barcelona forward Dani Olmo in 2025, as his future at Camp Nou remains uncertain, reports Sky Switzerland journalist Sacha Tavolieri.
Olmo’s agents are said to have “regular and positive discussions” with Arsenal officials ahead of the January transfer window, amid speculation that the Spanish international’s stint at Barcelona might come to an abrupt end.
Reports in Spain suggest the Catalan club could lose Olmo just six months after his £52m move from RB Leipzig, as he has yet to be registered for the second half of the season due to Barcelona’s well-known financial challenges.
Currently registered in La Liga only until December 31, the 26-year-old faces uncertainty about his ability to continue playing for Hansi Flick’s squad next year.
According to Mundo Deportivo, a clause in Olmo’s contract allows him to leave as a free agent if not re-registered, opening a potential opportunity for clubs to acquire the Euro 2024 champion in January without a fee.
Tavolieri adds that Manchester City is monitoring the situation closely, with Pep Guardiola possibly reconsidering his January priorities, despite ongoing interest in Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz.
At Arsenal, instability from sporting director Edu’s exit in November could complicate efforts to lure Olmo. Edu’s former deputy, Jason Ayto, has assumed the role temporarily and is likely to manage Arsenal’s winter transfer business while the club searches for a permanent successor.
