Curtis Jones has shared that he received a congratulatory message from former manager Jurgen Klopp following Liverpool’s 3-1 victory over Leicester City. The milestone match marked Jones’ 100th Premier League appearance, which he celebrated by scoring the goal that put Arne Slot’s side in the lead.
Klopp, who gave Jones his Premier League debut against Bournemouth in 2019, stepped down as Liverpool manager last summer. However, the German tactician remains closely connected to his former club and players as he prepares to begin his new role with the Red Bull group next week.
Reflecting on his journey, Jones expressed gratitude to Klopp for his pivotal influence on both his career and Liverpool’s progression, acknowledging the solid foundation the manager left behind for Slot to advance at Anfield.
Interestingly, Jones revealed he was unaware of his milestone until checking his phone in the dressing room post-match, where he found the heartwarming message from Klopp.
“I came in then and normally text family and I saw a text off [Jurgen] Klopp saying ‘congratulations on 100 games and here’s to 500,” he revealed to Match of the Day. “I was like what is he on about?’
“I just checked then and I am proud. It was him who set up the team we have now. The foundation was there and Arne Slot has carried it on.
“It looks good but there are plenty of games to come. You can play a team at the bottom, middle or top and it is a hard game. It is about trying to win every single game and if we do that everybody knows what comes at the end.
