MADRID’S TRENT PRICE: The price Real Madrid ‘are ready to pay’ for Trent Alexander-Arnold after Spanish giants saw approach for Anfield star shut down by Liverpool

Real Madrid are reportedly prepared to offer £20 million to secure Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold in the January transfer window.

The 26-year-old full-back, whose contract expires in the summer, has been the subject of increasing interest from the Spanish champions. According to Mail Sport, Madrid are confident they can entice Alexander-Arnold to make the switch.

With Dani Carvajal sidelined due to injury, Carlo Ancelotti’s side made an informal approach on Tuesday to discuss the possibility of signing the Liverpool ace. However, the club-to-club inquiry, which did not include a formal bid, was promptly rejected.

Now, The Telegraph reports that Madrid are contemplating a formal offer of £20 million to persuade Liverpool to part with their academy graduate.

Meanwhile, the Premier League leaders are keen to secure Alexander-Arnold’s future, along with extending the contracts of Mohamed Salah and captain Virgil van Dijk.

Despite the ongoing speculation, Alexander-Arnold has shown no clear signs of wanting to leave Liverpool, leaving him with a crucial decision about his next move.

Dani Carvajal, who is Madrid's first-choice right back, is not expected to play again this season

Dani Carvajal, Real Madrid’s first-choice right-back, is unlikely to feature again this season, fueling speculation about Alexander-Arnold’s potential move.

At just 26, Alexander-Arnold stands out as one of Liverpool’s most seasoned players. The local talent, who joined the club at the age of six, has been with Liverpool for two decades and ranks 10th in Premier League appearances for the Reds with 243 matches.

Since making his first-team debut in 2016, Alexander-Arnold has amassed 333 appearances across all competitions, collecting eight major trophies, including the Premier League, Champions League, and Club World Cup.

Though he lifted the Champions League trophy in 2019, Alexander-Arnold also experienced heartbreak as a losing finalist against Real Madrid in 2018 and 2022.

Already regarded as a Liverpool legend, his legacy is celebrated with a mural on Anfield Road, bearing the words: “I’m just a normal lad from Liverpool whose dream has come true.”

In an interview with Men in Blazers, he reflected on his ambitions, saying: “Of course, winning more trophies. But on a personal level, it’s building a legacy. That is something that’s important.”

Explaining further, he added: “Just being spoken about in the highest regard, especially after you’ve finished. In 10 or 15 years, if I’m mentioned as one of the best right-backs—or the best—that’s what I’m playing for now and what drives me.”

“That’s been the case for as long as I’ve been a manager,” Slot shared, “but I have some control over them in terms of what I expect on the pitch. I’m really pleased with what Virgil, Trent, and Mo bring to the team.”

Speaking ahead of the January transfer window, he added: “The positive for me is that for four or five months, it’s only been Trent, Mo, and Virgil you’ve all been focused on. Now, I hope – and don’t let me down here – that people will start asking about the players we’re targeting, who we might bring in next month, and which players might be leaving.

“That way, I get a bit of variety in the questions, not just about those three!”
