DIFFICULT AND FRUSTRATED: Ruben Amorim explains why he felt ‘angry and annoyed’ after Man United’s 2-2 draw with Liverpool despite his players’ impressive performance – and issues rallying call for stars

Ruben Amorim admitted he was “mad and upset” after Manchester United’s spirited display in their draw at Liverpool, frustrated by their inability to show the same fight in other games.

Despite taking the lead through Lisandro Martinez, Liverpool responded with goals from Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah before Amad Diallo’s late equalizer secured a point for United.

Amorim, while pleased with the effort, expressed frustration over the team’s inconsistency and urged them to use this result as a stepping stone. “I’m more upset because of the other games,” he said.

“This isn’t about the system or technique—it’s something else… I’m happy with today’s performance, but I’m the only one allowed to be upset. Today we played as a team.”

He noted that similar inconsistency had followed their victory over Manchester City, emphasizing the need for sustained focus.

‘I want to see my team play so much better but I think the most important thing to address today is the mentality and that is the key for everything.

‘Today we were a different team not because of the system, not because of a technical or tactical aspect.

‘We faced the competition in the way we are supposed to face every day. Training and match, it doesn’t match the place, the opponent, we need to face every day like that.’

Captain Bruno Fernandes thought similarly and added: ‘Obviously, we’ve been criticised, and fairly, because the position in the table says it all.

‘We’ve lost too many points. Even today, we can’t be happy with the draw, because we need points more than they need.

‘It’s a really good result and a fair result, both teams played good football and it was intense.

‘I’m pretty upset because we can show this against Liverpool at Anfield, first in the league, the outstanding team in the Premier League this season, why can’t we do this every week?’
