Harry Maguire squandered a golden opportunity to secure a dramatic last-minute victory for Manchester United in their intense clash with rivals Liverpool.
The Red Devils battled to a 2-2 draw against the Premier League leaders with a determined display at Anfield. Lisandro Martinez unleashed a thunderous strike early in the second half to put United ahead, but Liverpool quickly hit back.
Cody Gakpo leveled the score, and Mohamed Salah converted a penalty following a handball by Matthijs de Ligt to give the hosts the advantage. However, Amad Diallo salvaged a point for United with a late equalizer.
Despite the draw, Ruben Amorim’s side may rue missed opportunities, especially Maguire’s in the dying moments. With time almost up, Joshua Zirkzee set him up perfectly, but the defender’s close-range shot soared over the bar, leaving the game tied.

Roy Keane and Daniel Sturridge debated whether Zirkzee’s pass should have been better
Sky Sports pundits Roy Keane and Daniel Sturridge clashed over whether Maguire should have finished as the ball from Zirkzee took a bobble.
Sturridge said: ‘Don’t bobble it into him, you’ve got all the time in the world.’
Keane added: ‘Know your players, expect the bobble. He’s not going to zip it into you perfectly. You’ve got to hit the target Harry. If it hits the target, no problem.’
‘He passed it as if he was cutting it back to shoot. We’re talking about an international player,’ former Reds striker Sturridge responded.
United boss Amorim praised Maguire’s commitment despite his miss.
‘For me, missing chances or playing badly with the ball is not the big issue,’ Amorim told the BBC.
‘For me, the big issue is that Harry gave everything on the pitch. That is the most important thing.’
