Liverpool are reportedly preparing a £62 million bid to secure a potential replacement for struggling striker Darwin Núñez.

While manager Arne Slot has overseen a strong start to the season, recent setbacks against Fulham, Newcastle United, and Manchester United have sparked concerns. Despite these minor hiccups, Liverpool remain six points clear at the top of the Premier League with a game in hand over their closest competitors.

Amid the on-pitch success, much of the focus has shifted to the futures of several first-team players. The potential addition of a new forward highlights the club’s proactive approach to addressing performance concerns and maintaining its competitive edge.

For example, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah will walk away from Anfield for free in the summer as they enter the final few months of their contracts.

Meanwhile, struggling striker Nunez has also been linked with a move away, with Italian giants AC Milan said to be interested in signing the Uruguayan.

Now, it has been claimed that Liverpool have picked out their perfect replacement for Nunez.

Liverpool pick out ‘ideal’ replacement for Darwin Nunez

As reported by Anfield Watch, Liverpool ‘admire’ Napoli frontman Victor Osimhen, who is currently on loan at Turkish Super Lig side Galatasaray.

The report stated: “Liverpool really admire Victor Osimhen and (Michael) Edwards and (Richard) Hughes both view him as the ideal replacement for Nunez.

“Liverpool’s interest in Osimhen goes back many years, with Edwards a keen admirer of the Nigerian since his first foray in European football in Belgium and then Lille.”

According to Transfermarkt, Osimhen, who has scored 13 goals in 16 appearances across all competitions, has a market value of €75 million, which roughly equates to £62 million.

In contrast, Nunez has only managed four goals in 24 matches for Liverpool this season, a far cry from the numbers produced by the likes of Salah, Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz.

Earlier in the season, Slot said of Nunez: “For me, he has impact. He hasn’t scored the amount of goals that he wants to score … but he does have impact in his work-rate. He’s part of a team that scores a lot of goals and is winning a lot.

“Of course, as a number nine you want to score more goals, and that’s definitely what he wants as well. But I’m not only judging Mohamed Salah on his goals and Darwin on his goals – I also judge them on their work-rate and what they bring to the team.”

Liverpool are back in action on Wednesday night when they take on Tottenham Hotspur in the semi-final of the Carabao Cup.
