The 22-year-old Ivory Coast international, now a key figure under manager Ruben Amorim, was set to become a free agent next summer.

Since joining United from Atalanta in 2021 for an initial £19 million, with potential add-ons of £18.2 million, Diallo has made 50 appearances and scored nine goals.

Speaking on his new deal, Diallo said:“I’m incredibly proud to sign this contract. I’ve already experienced amazing moments here, but there’s so much more to achieve. My ambitions are immense, and I aim to create history with Manchester United.

“I’ve gained invaluable experience over the past four years, thanks to the coaches, staff, and fans who inspire me daily.”

Amad Diallo’s new five-year contract comes at a pivotal moment in his Manchester United career, marking his transformation from a promising teenager into a key member of the squad.

Reflecting on the current season, Diallo admitted:“It has been a challenging year for everyone, but I firmly believe we’re on the right track. The future looks incredibly bright, and I’m ready to give everything to help the team and make our fans proud.”

United’s technical director, Jason Wilcox, echoed these sentiments, praising Diallo’s growth:“Everyone is thrilled with Amad’s progress. His technical quality, versatility, and relentless determination have established him as a crucial part of Manchester United’s future. We’re excited to help him unlock his immense potential and achieve success with the club in the years to come.”

Since joining the Red Devils as an 18-year-old in 2021, Diallo’s journey has been one of gradual adaptation. After a quiet start—making just nine appearances in his first three seasons—he gained valuable experience on loan.

A mixed stint at Rangers in 2021-22 preceded his breakthrough at Sunderland in 2022-23, where he shone brightly, scoring 14 goals in 42 appearances. Returning to United last season, Diallo initially faced setbacks due to injury but became more integral as the season progressed.

His highlight came in March, with a dramatic late winner against Liverpool in the FA Cup quarter-finals, followed by his first Premier League goal against Newcastle in May. This season, Diallo has built on that momentum, recording six goals and seven assists despite United’s turbulent campaign.

At just 22, the Ivorian winger is poised to play a significant role in United’s future under Ruben Amorim, with his versatility and knack for decisive contributions making him an essential asset.

Diallo has proven to be an early favourite of Amorim since he took charge, playing every game of the Portuguese’s tenure so far, while he scored the winner against Man City in December and the equaliser against Liverpool on Sunday.

The 22-year-old has featured either at wing back or in one of the two attacking slots behind the striker as part of the 39-year-old’s 3-4-3 system.

And, speaking last month, Amorim was full of praise for Diallo’s progress, although he added that there were still parts of his game to work on.

‘He is really big in talent, but small in size,’ Amorim said after United beat Everton 4-0, where Diallo contributed two assists.

‘He did a great job but he also has to improve. He was really good again. He was really good defending and really good attacking so he has to continue to play like that.

‘You could feel it in the end of the game he was really, really tired so we have to manage that and increase his physical ability.

‘I’d like to take credit for (Amad’s pressing), but that’s him. He’s like that. He’s smart. He’s explosive.’
