‘A huge disappointment’ – Antony’s horror Man Utd career gets even worse with ‘miss of the season’ as fans say ‘maybe this sport isn’t for you’

Manchester United winger Antony endured a moment to forget during their clash against Southampton, missing what some are calling a “contender for miss of the season.”

Coming off the bench with United trailing 1-0 to the Premier League’s bottom team, Antony had a golden opportunity to level the score but somehow squandered it in dramatic fashion. With the goal seemingly at his mercy, the out-of-form Brazilian mistimed his effort, drawing audible groans from the Old Trafford faithful.

The miss capped another frustrating performance for both the player and his club as they struggled against a determined Saints side desperate to climb off the foot of the table. Antony’s recent form has come under intense scrutiny, and moments like this will only add to the pressure.

United fans will hope he can turn things around, but this latest setback does little to ease concerns about the winger’s confidence and consistency. For now, his miss will likely remain a talking point as the club reflects on a disappointing result.

But Antony sent the Old Trafford crowd and fans online into meltdown after his horror miss from just yards out.

Alejandro Garnacho – who squandered a sitter of his own in the first-half – squared the ball across to substitute Antony.

But the Brazilian appeared to slip and actually send the ball sideways – back the way it came from.

Fuming fans online showed no mercy as one said: “How has Antony not scored?.”

Another raged: “Antony maybe this sport just isn’t for you.”

One added: “I have so many questions…

“Why go to ground? Why lead with your knee? And how on earth does Antony miss that? Miss of the season?

Antony was signed by old boss Erik ten Hag from Ajax for £85.5million but he has struggled for form with just 12 goals to his name in United red.

United needed a late Amad Diallo hat-trick to come from behind in the last ten minutes and win the game -1.
