There are rumors that Anthony is getting closer to leaving Manchester United this month.
Following his historic £86 million transfer from Ajax in 2022, he had a promising start, but he has since struggled to recapture his best form.
Last season, the winger lost favor under Erik ten Hag due to his subpar play.
This season, that pattern persisted until Ruben Amorim took Ten Hag’s position, although he hasn’t really made an impact.
The 24-year-old’s terrifying miss against Southampton on Thursday, however, suggests that he may finally be getting away from his Theatre of Dreams nightmare.
Fabrizio Romano claims that Antony is almost certain to sign a loan deal with Real Betis till the end of the current campaign; the player will discuss the specifics once the deal is approved.
It is acknowledged that the contract does not include a purchase option.
In addition, the Red Devils will pay a portion of his salary.
Fans were not pleased with this clause, though, considering Amorim’s urgent need to sell before hiring new players for their next reconstruction effort.
“Man United will also cover part of the salary,” a fan posted on social media. They are pleading with him to go.
“Depleting our squad and not signing replacements,” remarked a second.
Another said: “I don’t see why we are doing a deal like this, therefore we better get a replacement. In addition to not having the opportunity to purchase, he is also paying a portion of his wage while playing for another team.
According to a fourth, “These loan deals with no buy option are absolutely useless.”
There were a lot of additional supporters who hoped Antony would improve while playing for the Spanish team.
He is reportedly paid £200,000 a week, which places him as the fifth most paid player in the team.
Antony’s contract has a one-year extension option and expires in 2027.
In 95 games with the Red Devils, he has only scored 12 goals and provided five assists.
In a related agreement, United is also paying a portion of Jadon Sancho’s salary while he is on loan at Chelsea; but, if the Blues place higher than 14th, a stipulation in the agreement will allow them to exercise a £25 million buyout option.
Although it’s unclear how much they would pay for Antony’s case, United is reportedly paying at least £100,000 of Sancho’s whole salary.
Antony was benched for Manchester United’s match against Brighton amid the rumors.
