The “In-the-Box” initiative was started by Manchester United and England national team football player Marcus Rashford to collect money for Barnabus, Centerpoint, and Lifeshare, three Manchester-based homeless charities.
During the holidays, the public is urged to fill shoeboxes with necessities to be given to adults who are in need. Located in the menswear department on the first floor, the box drop, which is in partnership with Selfridges Manchester Exchange (1, Exchange Square Central, Corporation St, Manchester, M3 1BD), will be available Monday through Sunday from 12:00 to 18:00.
Rashford revealed, “With the assistance of my family, I packaged and delivered a number of gift boxes for people in need across Manchester during a previous holiday season. I wanted this year’s events to reach a wider audience because it was one of the most fulfilling experiences of the year. Working with Selfridges Manchester Exchange for Christmas 2023 makes me very happy.
“This is my chance to help those who might not have the best Christmas,” he said, expressing his wish to give back to his city. I’m immensely happy of the support I’ve gotten throughout the years, and I hope that many more will join in so that together we can have a big influence.
“We’re delighted that Marcus Rashford has decided to support Lifeshare, Centrepoint, and Barnabus with his exciting ‘In-the-Box’ campaign,” said Lifeshare Trustee Robin Toal. His assistance this Christmas will genuinely benefit the impoverished and homeless.
