Pundits claim that Manchester United’s 2-0 victory over Romanian champions FCSB showed them how to maximize Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho.
In Bucharest, goals from Diogo Dalot and Mainoo propelled Ruben Amorim’s team to a third straight win.
While Garnacho set up his fellow academy graduate and took Tyrell Malacia’s place on the left flank, Mainoo played in an advanced midfield role.
One X supporter stated that the goal was “made in Carrington” and that it was heartening for fans to see their team winning and going straight to the round of 16.
I don’t believe Garnacho is a 10. When he can run at the opposition, he performs at his peak. Robbie Savage told TNT Sports that he believes Mainoo is at his best in those confined spaces.
Take a look at Garnacho’s location on the left. They pose a menace when they are running at teams.
Kobbie isn’t a six on this team, in my opinion. He is a 10 on that team, in my opinion. The run is visible in the first half.
“They’ve had plenty of games, and Garnacho and Amad (Diallo) made a huge difference to the side,” Owen Hargreaves continued. All of them appeared much more dangerous in the second half.
“Mainoo can play farther forward because Eriksen and Bruno are playing deeper.”
Marcus Rashford’s future after being left behind in Manchester has been a major topic of discussion in the lead-up to the game.
Even without a play-off, United still needed a victory to secure a spot in the top eight or a point to all but ensure their advancement to the round of sixteen.
Despite this, Ruben Amorim made five changes, adding Mainoo, Toby Collyer, Christian Eriksen, Malacia, and Altay Bayindir, his number two goalkeeper.
Even so, it was sufficient against FCSB, who fell 4-0 to Rangers in this competition and only spent about Β£30 million to assemble.
United will therefore face either FC Midtjylland, Real Sociedad, Galatasaray, or AZ.
