Lisandro Martinez, a defender for Manchester United, is said to have sustained a catastrophic ACL injury.
After hurting his knee in the closing moments of United’s Premier League match against Crystal Palace on Sunday, the 27-year-old was taken out on a stretcher.
The defender pushed forward before his left knee gave way as he tried to regain the ball from Ismaila Sarr.
He instantly collapsed to the ground, gripping his leg, and motioned to the bench to be replaced.
Then, as he was being brought off the field, the Argentina international started crying.
Man Utd head coach Ruben Amorim acknowledged that Martinez’s injury appeared “serious” in his post-match remarks.
He is now expected to miss the rest of the season due to a serious ACL injury, according to reports from Argentina.
According to reports, tests conducted on Monday verified that Martinez had torn his left knee’s cruciate ligament.
He will now need surgery and will probably be out of commission for about eight months.
“He is not only a great player but a strong character in the dressing room,” Amorim stated following the game on Sunday.
“He sensed it, and as a player, you can tell when something is serious. Just like he has helped us, we are here to support him during this trying time.
Since joining the Red Devils in July 2022, Martinez has struggled with injuries.
His 2023–24 season was hindered by foot, calf, and knee issues after he missed the end of his first season due to a metatarsal fracture.
Over the weekend, Manchester United lost to Crystal Palace 2-0.
