Scott McTominay discussed in an interview how difficult it is for Premier League football players to work out in the gym.
With Man United, the massive 6′ 3″ player has enjoyed a strong start to the season. In the Premier League, he has five goals, including two that helped United defeat Chelsea 2-1 at the start of December.
Before the 2022–2023 season started, McTominay posted a photo of his toned figure to Instagram in 2022 while working out late at night.
The 27-year-old has now discussed the drastic changes he made to his body. He said that Paul Pogba, a former colleague of his from Manchester United, had advised him to put on muscle.
“I think people would be shocked if they knew how hard players work in the gym and how high of an intensity you have to push yourself to reach those goals,” the Scotland international said in an interview with FourFourTwo.
“My body has changed in the past seven years.” When I was 17 or 18, I weighed 70 kg and stood 6 feet 3 inches tall. I weigh 85 kg now.
“It took a lot of work for me to get stronger.”You’ll put on the muscle when you get to 23,” Paul Pogba told me. “Where is it then?!” I asked myself when it didn’t occur.
Because he exercises frequently, Erik ten Hag may have promoted him in the team’s hierarchy. So far this season, the midfielder has started 12 of United’s 16 Premier League games.
For context, McTominay made 24 appearances for United in the previous campaign, but the Dutch manager only started him 10 times. In order to gain more playing time, he was reportedly in negotiations to join West Ham in the summer.
Additionally, he was captain of United when they played Liverpool and failed to score at Anfield due to Bruno Fernandes’ suspension.
“I’m lucky because I’ve always loved going to the gym,” said McTominay, who has received accolades for his performance this season. I’m skilled at competing in that field, and I enjoy little victories.
The same is true of my diet and sleep schedule. I take great pride in my high level of discipline.
