Former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson is booked on the bench after getting embroiled in a major brawl as Ajax scrape through their Europa League match

Jordan Henderson managed to earn himself a yellow card while he wasn’t even on the field as Ajax advanced into the last-16 of the Europa League tie.

Henderson began on the bench for the second leg against Union Saint-Gilloise in the Netherlands on Thursday night, with the Dutch team holding a 2-0 advantage.

However, the home side made things very challenging for themselves as that lead was swiftly erased during a disastrous first half.

Kevin Mac Allister, brother of Liverpool star Alexis, scored with a header in the 16th minute, and Davy Klaasen was sent off for a deliberate handball, allowing Promise David to convert the resulting penalty.

Tensions rose in the second half when Akinpelu fouled Ajax’s Jorthy Mokio, resulting in a confrontation between both teams as Saint-Gilloise’s Sofiane Boufal refused to relinquish the ball.
