Ruben Amorim has been urged by Manchester United supporters to start whizkid Chido Obi going forward.
Following the 17-year-old’s performance in United’s thrilling 2-2 draw with Everton on Saturday, supporters were all in agreement about him.
When United was behind 2-0 in the 70th minute, Obi took Rasmus Hojlund’s position.
Rio Ferdinand was “embarrassed” for his previous club after Beto and Abdoulaye Doucoure scored goals in the first half.
However, Alejandro Garnacho and Obi’s arrivals provided a much-needed boost and change of pace.
Two minutes after Obi’s arrival, Bruno Fernandes equalized with a free-kick, but Manuel Ugarte’s volley quickly followed.
After a startling first hour, United appeared much more dangerous in the closing minutes.
In addition, Obi has received gratitude from hundreds of United supporters for “changing the game”.
A supporter wrote: “I wish I was joking but Chido Obi did more than Hojlund in terms of linking up play.”
According to a second, “Obi just provided more than Hojlund has all season.”
“Obi actually changed the result for us,” another joked. For the foreseeable future, he must start afresh in Hojlund.
“Hojlund needs to hold the bench,” a third person stated. It’s time to give Chido Obi a chance and some games.
Another wrote: “Would start Obi against Ipswich on Wednesday.” however.
Finally, one fan commented: “A 17-year-old academy kid is better than £72m Hojlund ✍️.”
Hojlund made just SEVEN passes, had just 12 touches, and had zero attempts at Jordan Pickford.
After yet another terrible afternoon, the Dane was pulled off after losing eight duels.
In contrast, Obi, who played the final four minutes against Spurs last Sunday, looked older than his years in his second Premier League appearance.
Despite playing 70 fewer minutes than Hojlund, the former Arsenal wonderkid had just as many touches.
Everton’s overturned penalty in stoppage time, meanwhile, was the match’s most memorable moment.
Ashley Young appears to have been pulled down in the vicinity by Harry Maguire, a United player.
Referee Andy Madley pointed directly at the spot, but VAR disagreed and suggested that he look at the pitchside monitor instead.
The Red Devils were relieved when the hosts were not awarded a late penalty following a protracted review.
Amorim’s team is one point behind the Toffees and still sits in 15th place in the Premier League standings.
