After posting pictures from his mother’s visit, injured Manchester United player Lisandro Martinez won people over.
Martinez tore his ACL during the final moments of Manchester United’s 2-0 loss to Crystal Palace on February 2 and is currently undergoing post-surgery rehabilitation.
Mother Silvina and his expectant girlfriend are providing support for the Argentine while he is absent for the remainder of the season.
Martinez posted photos from his mother’s visit to his Manchester home in his most recent post following surgery.
The defender posted a funny video of her assisting him with exercises along with pictures of the two of them cuddling on his doorstep.
“Thank you for hugging my heart and making me smile. 😁💖 I love you Ma!” was the message on his sentimental Instagram photo.
His mother encouraged him to raise his damaged right leg higher in the air, seemingly boosting his spirits.
The video shows Martinez watching his teammates lose 1-0 to Spurs on Sunday while sporting his Manchester United training uniform.
In his living room, the center-back was lying on a rehabilitation bed with supporting tape wrapped around his knee.
One reader wrote: “There’s nothing like a mother’s love and motivation.” Others appreciated the cute moment.
Another person said, “This is so adorable.”
“You’ve got this warrior,” a third said.
Another person commented, “Even football players need their mothers.”
After hurting his knee versus Palace at Old Trafford, the 27-year-old was carried off on a stretcher.
Late in the game, the Eagles star Ismaila Sarr and the World Cup winner fought for the ball.
However, he was in excruciating discomfort after apparently getting his leg stuck in the turf.
United lost to Spurs and drew 2-2 with Everton this weekend, their first Premier League defeat since his injury.
Martinez posted an emotional social media update following surgery this month.
“Today, after going through several stormy days where I allowed myself to feel and accept my sadness, helplessness, insecurities, fears, and deep emotional imbalance, I am reconnecting with my essence and my values, which help me see things from a kinder and more positive perspective,” he posted on Instagram last week.
“I feel immense gratitude for the incredible work and support of @manchesterunited, @afaseleccion, my family, friends, team-mates, and everyone who took the time to send me a message of encouragement,” he continued, thanking his club and the Argentine national team.
Martinez demonstrated that he had the backing of Muri Lopez Benitez, his childhood sweetheart, and his eagerly awaited first child.
Last October, the couple announced that 26-year-old Muri was pregnant.
The defender said in a statement next to the picture that Martinez and Muri shared of them clutching their baby scan: “We are so happy that you came into our lives.” We appreciate you picking us.
They subsequently disclosed that they were expecting a daughter, whom they had chosen to call Aurora.
The defender has had two-foot surgeries since joining Ajax for £56.7 million, and he also suffered damage to the medical ligament in his right knee, though surgery was not necessary for that condition.
Martinez’s return to fitness for the start of the upcoming season is something the Red Devils are praying for.
