On Wednesday night, Manchester United snapped a three-game losing streak in the Premier League.
At Old Trafford, the Red Devils’ first-half performance against Ipswich Town was uneventful.
Although Patrick Dorgu’s dismissal before halftime was a severe setback, they prevailed in the second half.
In the 47th minute, Harry Maguire scored the game-winning goal after Bruno Fernandes’ excellent assist.
Fernandes was unquestionably the star of the game because he contributed to all three goals, but Maguire’s outstanding all-around effort yesterday made him the unsung hero.
The Englishman won 86% of his aerial battles and 100% of his ground battles. The center-back had three outstanding shots on goal and finished all two of his tackles.
Maguire also recorded three blocks, five recoveries, and seven clearances. Alex Palmer, the goalie, stopped the former captain from scoring at least two goals in the first forty-five minutes.
The defender finished the game with 70 touches and 46 passes.
Manchester Evening News gave the 31-year-old a 7 out of 10 for his efforts. We think he was on par with Fernandes. Maguire put up a strong defense against Liam Delap, a cunning opponent.
Maguire’s performance against Everton at Goodison Park was forgettable. When Abdoulaye Doucoure jumped to score for the Toffees, he was judged guilty of failing to clear his lines.
Yesterday, he made apologies with the Tractor Boys. Under head coach Ruben Amorim, Maguire has emerged as a favorite.
We won’t be shocked if the club starts negotiating a new deal with him if he can continue to play at the same level in the upcoming months.
