Declan Rice was presented with a custom-made pair of boots by England legend Frank Lampard to celebrate his 50th cap for the national team.
At just 25, Rice has been a key player for the Three Lions under Gareth Southgate since his debut in 2019, playing pivotal roles in England’s runs to the Euro 2020 final and the quarter-finals of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Despite several absentees in the squad for recent friendlies against Brazil and Belgium, Rice remained available and played the full 90 minutes in both matches. He even captained the team against Belgium, stepping in for usual skipper Harry Kane, who was sidelined due to an ankle injury.
The honor of leading the team coincided with Rice’s 50th appearance, and his achievement was further recognized with the bespoke Adidas boots. The design featured the colors of England—red, white, and blue—along with a special message celebrating his 50 caps and the national flag emblazoned on the side.
While presenting the boots, Lampard praised Rice, saying, “Declan shouldn’t underestimate this achievement. Every kid dreams of playing for their country, so hitting 50 caps is very special. I’m excited to see what the summer brings for him and this young team going into the Euros.”
Rice shared his excitement about reaching this milestone, stating, “It is a massive achievement for me. Those close to me know how much playing for my country means, so to hit 50 caps is incredible. I can’t wait to wear my new boots on the field.”
He wore the bespoke boots during England’s 2-2 draw with Belgium, where England came back from behind thanks to goals from Ivan Toney and Jude Bellingham.
Reflecting on his journey, Rice admitted he never imagined reaching 50 caps. “You need to gain the manager’s trust, and over the past five to six years, I’ve been involved in almost every setup. To reach my 50th cap is a very special milestone.”
He expressed disbelief at having his own custom boots, saying, “You wouldn’t imagine having your own boot, especially for a 50th cap. You associate signature boots with Ballon d’Or winners, and I’ve got a pair.”
After the recent friendlies, England will prepare for upcoming matches against Bosnia-Herzegovina and Iceland in June, leading up to their Euro 2024 campaign, starting against Serbia on June 16. Denmark and Slovenia are also in England’s group.
