According to sources, Manchester United has “put up” the funds necessary to activate Martin Zubimendi’s release clause at Real Sociedad this summer.
The Red Devils have already signed French center-back Leny Yoro from Lille and Netherlands international Joshua Zirkzee from Serie A team Bologna.
With INEOS assisting Ruben Amorim in assembling a team capable of surpassing their eighth-place result from the previous season, Man Utd is now seeking to add a midfield player and another center-back as their next top priorities.
Additionally, according to trade expert Fabrizio Romano, Man Utd now values Zubimendi as they search for a new midfield player this summer.
Romano told GiveMeSport: “It’s crucial to mention that the scouting department appreciates Zubimendi. However, Zubimendi’s price makes it a difficult bargain.
Although the player has a €60 million release clause, he is not in a rush to quit the team. At Real Sociedad, he has always been really content. Zubimendi is not an easy deal because it is his city and his country.
“But there are a number of options, and Manchester United is definitely thinking about making a midfield move.”
According to Spanish reports, Man Utd has “put up” €60 million to activate Zubimendi’s release clause because “Amorim’s men continue to look for reinforcements in the transfer market.”
With the Red Devils’ “offer” proving to be a “considerable temptation” for both the La Liga team and Zubimendi, Manchester United is “willing to make a big investment” in the Real Sociedad midfielder.
However, if Sociedad “rejects this first approach, there will be another one with even more millions on the table.” It is acknowledged that “the decision will not be easy, and the player will take his time to consider all the options.”
