Chido Obi’s exclusion from Manchester United’s Europa League team has been justified by Ruben Amorim.
With Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee struggling in front of goal, the 17-year-old striker, who has been prolific for United’s minor sides, came off the bench in three of the previous four games.
However, Obi was not included in United’s European squad before to the February deadline, and he has not traveled to Spain for Thursday’s match against Real Sociedad in the round of 16.
“The context was different,” Amorim remarked. Josh and Rasmus were playing in the same position at the time. The environment was entirely different, and we selected different participants as a result of our attempts to control everything, including the children’s expectations.
Jack Fletcher was not included in the United team that traveled from Manchester on Wednesday afternoon following training at Carrington, but he was added to the team for the competition’s knockout stage.
“He had a game before Fulham and didn’t train with us,” Amorim continued. Today, Harry Amass is present. We also wanted Amass in the most recent match against Fulham, but he was left out of our squad since he played the entire match against Arsenal (in the FA Youth Cup).
We made an effort to oversee everything there and consider every possible replacement. We are aware that bringing some players is a significant step, and we are attending to the children’s expectations.
“I envision the substitutions after I see the players I have who train with us when I put the squad together,” I call at one or two because of this. After that, I’m attempting to find out if they train with us. In order for you guys to see a lot of young people, I then try to determine if they came here to play or to sit on the bench.
I’m attempting to control everything. I’m trying to handle everything, and I know it’s a significant step for them. Therefore, when I work on my squad, I try to consider every detail, including the child’s formation and our team, rather than what will seem particularly well in front of the media and supporters.
