Ruben Amorim, the manager of Manchester United, has spoken highly of Ayden Heaven after his outstanding performance in the 1-1 draw with Arsenal.
Just before halftime, Bruno Fernandes’ outstanding free-kick attempt ended the stalemate. United had scoring opportunities and appeared to be on track to win all three points, but with 16 minutes remaining, Declan Rice’s brilliant strike gave the visitors the equalizer.
Heaven, who made his Premier League debut at halftime, was among several United players who performed admirably.
Leny Yoro, who was withdrawn because of an injury, was replaced by the January signing.
Speaking to reporters following the final whistle, Amorim commended Heaven for his consistency and for helping the Red Devils earn a crucial point.
Amorim offered his assessment on United’s performance as well.
“Just the low block…the way to give the ball to the opponent,” the Portuguese coach stated. It’s a positive thing to be united and to follow the plan. This serves as a model for the future, although I’m only referring to the low block, where you can sense our supporters’ annoyance during the first half.
Amorim emphasized his desire for United to not be a squad that plays in a low block most of the time.
“It was the ideal plan. In other words, we need to press a little bit higher and have more possession and control of the ball. We occasionally provide pressure, particularly during goal kicks and free kicks close to Raya’s goal. We do a good job pressing, but I want to play a different style of football in the future, spending more time attacking with the ball in the last third rather than defending in the low block.
Amorim responded, “I don’t know, maybe it’s because in those games it’s a little bit more acceptable to play a low block and that can help us a lot,” when asked why he does better against larger teams than against opponents that are thought to be inferior. It’s challenging here [at home] because we have to push forward against other teams.
It’s more challenging when you have to press high. Sometimes players lack the qualities necessary to accomplish that, but training and playing in a club like ours forces you to persevere no matter what, and I believe that’s the main reason for it.
“Maybe Ugarte, I don’t know,” Amorim said when asked if he anticipates having certain players return for Thursday’s Europa League matchup against Real Sociedad. We shall see.
“He always steps up,” Amorim said of Fernandes. He occasionally displays frustration, which can occasionally damage him, and I can understand that since he wants to succeed.
However, he is nearly always available. I believe he’s a great example because he’s always available to play a variety of positions and occasionally provides a goal, free kick, or assist when we need it. Although it’s usual for him to make mistakes, he sets a great example for the other players.
“Because you are in front of the results and then you are in the second half and feel like you can score,” Amorim explained when asked why his players frequently appear to be more motivated in the second half than in the first forty-five minutes. You don’t feel as exhausted when you are in the present.
“You are aware at the beginning of the game that you have ninety minutes to defend in order to avoid giving up a goal. consider it more of a plan. You will be more dangerous and the players will feel more confidence in the second half if you can be in the game or on top of it at halftime.
“We have more faith in ourselves during games because we feel more confident and like we can accomplish this.”
“We try to understand at first, but it’s more comfortable during the game.” I thought we improved our quality and confidence during the game in Spain once again.
Amorim emphasized that in the future, it will be crucial for United to get players with Fernandes’ mindset and skill set.
United has “more Brunos,” he said.
“Ayden is so relaxed, sometimes he is too relaxed!” Amorim told reporters on Heaven. I believe we need to keep an eye on one of the players there.
Something is wrong with Leny’s foot. We’ll check to see if he can come on Thursday.
