While on vacation in Portugal, Sir Alex Ferguson met up with Nani, the cult hero of Manchester United, ten days after the 38-year-old declared his retirement from professional football, shortly after his father passed away.
Nani, a former United winger, posted photos of Ferguson having breakfast with him on Wednesday.
As they savored a spread of coffee, cake, and toast in the sunshine, both were elegantly attired for the event.
This time in Portugal, Nani wrote: “Delicious breakfast with the great and special company of Sir Alex Ferguson.”
“Wonderful memories, amazing experience. Boss, I’ll see you soon 😁.
The former Portugal international’s X post was reposted by United with the caption, “Things you love to see.”
The reunion of the Prem legends after all these years was a huge hit with fans.
“Nani and Fergie are looking sharp!” one person said, while another wrote, “Time flies, we miss you both 💖.”
An further observer said, “Ferguson looks so healthy and happy, brilliant to see.”
On December 8, Nani declared his official retirement from football.
Given that he was playing for Estrella Amadora in the highest division in his own country, the wideman’s statement was unexpected.
Despite the squad’s relegation struggles, Nani made ten appearances this season and was regarded as a first team regular.
In his article, Nani disclosed that the recent death of his father had contributed to his decision to quit.
He was compelled by that tragedy to think about his future and make a commitment to spend more time with his family.
“I want to spend as much time as possible with my daughter, wife, mother, siblings, cousins, uncles, and aunts,” he stated.
“They also need me, and I need to be with them which is very important.”
Two years after making his senior debut for Sporting Lisbon, Nani joined the Red Devils in 2007.
Under Ferguson’s guidance, he won two League Cups, four Premier League titles, and the 2008 Champions League during his eight years at United.
Nani scored 40 goals in 230 appearances.
In Wilmslow, Manchester, Ferguson and Nani used to live NEXT DOOR to one another.
Indeed, Ferguson used to be driven by Nani to and from the locations where the team met for games.
He previously disclosed that after he took a penalty off Ryan Giggs and missed, Ferguson gave him the quiet treatment during a tense car ride.
On Rio Ferdinand’s Vibe with Five YouTube channel, Nani stated: “Giggs had the ball there, so I dragged him away, grabbed it, and missed the penalty. Oh my.
“With the penalty, it should have ended 3-2 for us, but it ended 2-2. He murders Giggsy as soon as we enter the dressing room, shouting, “Giggsy, with your experience, what the hell are you doing?”
“I let him take the penalty because he wanted to,” Giggsy said. After finishing with Giggsy, he turned to face me. “Nani!” There will never be another penalty for you!
“After that, we returned home. The gaffer lives next to me now that we’re in Macclesfield.
‘Anyone reside in Wilmslow?’ he asked. ‘I don’t want to kidnap him!’ I stared about.
“Nani, you live in Wilmslow, right?” someone asked. Are you able to take the boss?
“I took him in my car, and for at least two minutes, we just stared at each other without speaking.
“I then apologized for the penalty, boss. “No, son, it’s okay,” he said. In the corner, you ought to take it a little more forcefully. And ahhh, when he said that.
Alongside fellow United alumnus Cristiano Ronaldo, Nani also contributed to his nation’s 2016 Euro victory.
After he retires, the former Portugal international will still be connected to football.
He will work on initiatives like Fernao Ferro’s Nani Football Academy.
In addition, the former Premier League player holds a minority share in Sintrense SAD, a lower tier team in Portugal.
He rejoined Sporting on loan in Portugal in 2015.
Then came stints at Melbourne Victory, Fenerbahce, Valencia, Lazio, Sporting once more, Orlando City, Venezia, and Adana Demirspor.
