Rasmus Hojlund’s famous “siu” celebration was repeated in front of Cristiano Ronaldo after the Man United forward scored Denmark’s game-winning goal against Portugal on Thursday night.

In the first leg of Denmark’s quarterfinal matchup with Portugal in the Nations League, Hojlund came off the bench.

Andreas Skov Olsen’s ball was converted by Hojlund, who scored 12 minutes from time to give the Danes a 1-0 victory.

Then, Hojlund, who had just been on for nine minutes, was shown wheeling off to join his teammates in celebrating.

The experienced Portugal player was left to watch from the center circle as the 22-year-old imitated Ronaldo’s signature celebration at the corner flag.

Despite scoring the game-winning goal against the favorite team of Manchester United, Hojlund’s celebration seemed to have been a nod to Ronaldo.

As a child, the Dane had expressed his unabashed admiration for Ronaldo.

Before the game, Hojlund told Danish publication DR, “I won’t overstate it, but Cristiano is everything to me.”

Cristiano is the reason I became a Manchester United supporter and fell in love with football.

Cristiano inspired me to begin self-training, and I began performing push-ups and sit-ups daily before bed because I wanted to be like him.

In the summer of 2023, after spending £72 million to join Man United, Hojlund disclosed that his father had encouraged him to look up to Ronaldo.

He wasn’t a full-fledged football player when he arrived, according to several interviews I’ve watched with former Manchester United players. He was talented, but he matured.

Denmark had a slim lead going into the second leg of their quarterfinal match in the Nations League thanks to Hojlund’s performance against Portugal.

On Sunday, Portugal will host the second leg.
