For the £35 million winger Trincao, RUBEN AMORIM is preparing a summer comeback to Sporting Lisbon.
Since Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho are unlikely to return to Old Trafford following their separate loans, the Manchester United manager has made it a top priority to buy a wide player.
And after bringing him to Lisbon during his tenure as manager, Trincao, who scored twice for Portugal in Sunday’s 5-2 Nations League victory against Denmark, is at the top of the United manager’s wanted list.
The 25-year-old had a buyout of over £400 million when he first joined to Barcelona, but he struggled at Camp Nou and spent a season on loan at Wolves.
Amorim signed a permanent contract after another one at Sporting, and his career took off after he at last found stability.
Though he can play on either flank and has occasionally been played through the middle, Trincao is typically a left-footed right winger.
Arsenal and Newcastle have also been monitoring him.
However, Barca, who have a buyback option worth slightly more than £20 million, might pose the largest threat.
However, Amorim thinks that Trincao would choose Old Trafford because of their prior working relationship and the opportunity to reconnect with his former manager.
Meanwhile, Rashford, who is on loan at Aston Villa, may fetch a higher asking price from United.
Under Thomas Tuchel, the striker has earned a recall to England.
It was also believed that United would be willing to sell the 27-year-old Manchester native for between £35 million and £40 million at the end of the current campaign.
However, it has now been suggested that the 61-cap star may be worth around £60 million.
Paradoxically, there have been rumors that Rashford still wants to play for Barcelona.
