Ruben Amorim has ruled out the possibility of his captain leaving Old Trafford in the summer and is adamant that Manchester United can fulfill Bruno Fernandes’ goals.
Prior to Tuesday’s trip to Nottingham Forest, Fernandes had scored seven goals in seven games, putting him in the finest form of his United career. This season, the 30-year-old Portugal great has scored 16 goals and provided 15 assists. Given that United may have to sell players to make room for new acquisitions, it generated rumors over the weekend about a possible £90 million transfer to Real Madrid.
However, Amorim quickly put an end to any transfer rumors by declaring, “It’s not going to happen.” We want a player like this, and because I’ve already told him, he won’t be leaving!
Because he plays 55 games a season and contributes at least 30 goals and assists, he is 30 years old but yet feels extremely young. We are looking for a player like him.
Fernandes said last year that before agreeing to a new deal that would extend until June 2027, he wanted to be sure United shared his goals.
Critics of the former Sporting Lisbon player also refer to his unfavorable on-field demeanor as evidence that he is becoming irritated at United.
However, Amorim went on to say: “That is the challenge.” We want the top players to stay with us because we want to win the Premier League once more.
The problem is under our control. He seems incredibly content here, especially since he knows what we want to do. In addition, I believe he is another Man United supporter. He senses it deeply.
“There are instances when the frustration that everyone observes and may say is not a good quality in a captain, but rather indicates that he wants this very much.”
Amorim was hesitant to discuss the prospect of Marcus Rashford getting another chance under him after the 27-year-old scored his first goals on loan at Aston Villa in Saturday’s FA Cup victory at Preston and participated in the opening matches against Albania and Latvia under new England manager Thomas Tuchel during the international break.
Amorim stated: “I’m planning for the future, but I don’t want to talk about the future right now.” Villa has the option to purchase Rashford for £40 million at the end of the current campaign.
Everyone is aware of Rashford’s skill, and I know him very well. If he so chooses, he is a top player.
