Ruben Amorim, the manager of Manchester United, acknowledged that Alejandro Garnacho didn’t have the best game against Nottingham Forest, but he still took some good notes from his performance.
Anthony Elanga punished his former employers with a startling 85-meter solo run before putting his shot past Andre Onana, causing the Red Devils to return from their trip to Nottingham with a loss.
The winger’s goal in the fifth minute hinted at an intriguing match, but it ended up being the only goal of the match. Amorim’s team was unable to create much in the final third, and Forest was content to take Man Utd’s pressure for the remainder of the match.
Despite being on the field for the entire game, Garnacho found it difficult to contribute. At the final whistle, the young Argentinean player appeared sad, possibly realizing he ought to have done more.
Samuel Luckhurst, a journalist for the Manchester Evening News, criticized Garnacho’s “naive” performance during the match, particularly after he kicked the ball away and received a free yellow card. As a result, Luckhurst gave the winger the lowest mark of the evening, 4/10.
Amorim, for his part, acknowledged that Garnacho made numerous mistakes in the last third but defended him for giving it his all and coming back to help his teammates during the defensive phase.
“He is creating everything.” He’s making an effort. In his post-match interview, the 40-year-old stated, “sometimes you have one day where you are doing the right things, but in the last third, you are not that fantastic.
The manager came to the conclusion that “what matters most to me is that he is running back when he needs to.”
Over the previous two campaigns, Garnacho was a favorite at Erik ten Hag’s court, but under Amorim, he hasn’t always performed well. Earlier in the season, the Portuguese tactician had benched him, but Amad Diallo’s injury allowed him to return to the starting lineup.
Napoli is apparently interested in signing the 20-year-old, who has been frequently linked to a summer departure.
