Nikola Jokic is back in the Balkans with the NBA offseason well underway. But the Denver Nuggets center still hears “MVP” chants despite finding himself far away from the Mile High City.
Jokic, 28, has become accustomed to hearing such cries across Colorado while putting together three straight seasons that have seen him earn MVP hardware. After winning the regular season award in back-to-back seasons in 2021 and 2022, the superstar responded to being snubbed for a third by being unanimously voted the best player in the 2023 NBA Finals.
After winning the franchise’s first championship with his Nuggets teammates, the celebrations started with a parade through downtown Denver and continued with a short stop in Las Vegas. However, within days Jokic returned home to Serbia to be with his horses.
After arriving in the country’s capital, Belgrade, and spending some time in his hometown of Sombor, Jokic has traveled around the region and was in Bosnia and Herzegovina over the weekend. While river rafting in Republika Srpska, he was welcomed on the water by the sounds of his adopted home.
