On Good Friday, André Onana watched Wigan Warriors play St Helens, switching from football to rugby league.
The Manchester United goalie watched the Super League match at the DW Stadium during his day off.
Onana, 29, made his comeback to the United squad on Thursday night as they defeated Lyon 5–4 in extra time.
There have been rumors that the Cameroon international may leave Old Trafford in the summer.
Altay Bayindir replaced him after manager Ruben Amorim rested him for Sunday’s 4-1 loss to Newcastle.
Onana ran over to celebrate United’s thrilling last-minute victory with his manager on the touchline, but Amorim trusted his No. 1 for the second leg against the Ligue 1 team.
And hours later, as the defending Super League champions easily won 24–14, the former Inter Milan goalie was spotted at the DW Stadium.
Furthermore, supporters quickly made jokes about Onana “getting tips” from rugby players on how to catch.
A supporter commented on X: “United’s new training plan for goalkeepers to learn how to catch and throw a ball?”
“I hope he’s looking for a career change,” remarked another ruthlessly.
“First and foremost, as a coach and former player, I try to do things that can help a player in this situation,” he told reporters.
“We talk about controlling players’ bodies, but we also need to control their minds.
“We had one weekend where I felt it was better for Andre Onana not to play and a good thing for Altay [Bayindir] to play.”
This season, Onana has participated in 31 Premier League games for United.
Ten of those games ended in victories, and he has preserved nine clean sheets.
However, in addition to making a lot of mistakes that have given the opposition chances or goals, he has picked the ball out of the net 41 times.
