Even though Rasmus Hojlund of Manchester United scored their late equalizer against Bournemouth, Bruno Fernandes took a jab at the Manchester United striker. In Sunday’s 1-1 draw on the south coast, Hojlund’s impulsive finish in injury time helped United salvage a point.
Even though the Cherries were reduced to 10 men after Evanilson was sent off, it looked as though they would maintain their 1-0 lead after Antoine Semenyo put them ahead. But in the 96th minute, Hojlund snatched a draw by deflecting Manuel Ugarte’s close-range shot into the net.
It was only his fourth goal in 29 Premier League games this season, and in an eye-catching post-match interview, United captain Fernandes congratulated the Danish striker but also reminded him of his duties.
“We all know that strikers are about scoring goals, and he understands that as United’s No. 9 he has to score goals; that’s what a club like this demands, not just of him but of everyone else,” he told MUTV.
“Every player who possesses the skills to enter the box and score goals must do so. Rasmus scored today, and everyone is thrilled to see a striker score, and perhaps it will give him a little boost for the future.”
In 46 games across all competitions this season, Hojlund has nine goals and four assists for United, and the squad as a whole has struggled because of him. Ruben Amorim’s six had a total of 25 shots against their opponents, who only scored in the last minutes after being reduced to 10 men.
Amorim said, “We could do better,” to Sky Sports. “We need to improve near the box even though we generated opportunities. It’s the little things. We must comprehend the foot in play, whether it is crossing or one-on-one. That is how we must interpret the game.
In response to a question concerning Hojlund, he added: “Strikers should always score. However, from the perspective of a striker, the game is about more than just goals. Although it is a positive lift, we must go again because the next game will be a new chapter in history.
Amorim is aware that United needs to improve in front of goal because his squad has only scored 39 goals in 34 league games, which is more than any other team in the division except West Ham, who are tied with Everton and the three relegated teams.
Wolves striker Matheus Cunha, Ipswich’s Liam Delap, and Napoli’s Victor Osimhen are the top targets for the United manager, who is eager to add firepower during the summer transfer window.
