Brentford 4-3 Man United: Red Devils field their YOUNGEST ever Premier League side and are beaten by Brentford in a SEVEN-GOAL thriller – as Ruben Amorim pins his Europa League hopes on them😢

RUBEN AMORIM played the children and changed the history books.

Unfortunately for the United manager, though, he is also setting records for all the wrong reasons, and this was the team’s 16th defeat in the Premier League, their worst season ever.

Mason Mount scored for Brentford for just the second time since joining United, followed by an own goal from Luke Shaw, two goals from Kevin Schade, and a fourth from Yoane Wissa.

Despite late goals from Alejandro Garnacho and substitute Amad Diallo, United’s Premier League defeat of 16—a club record—could not be stopped. Amazingly, Amorim still only has six victories in the top level.

United is fortunate that the bottom three clubs are so bad since they would be in a relegation battle in most other seasons.

Brentford's Kevin Schade celebrates scoring a goal.

The club’s supporters may at least look forward to the Europa League final because they couldn’t possibly ruin their second leg versus Bilbao in the semi-final.

Amorim made eight changes from the victory in Spain with an eye toward Thursday’s match. They were the third youngest side to start a Premier League match, with an average age of 22 years and 270 days.

Additionally, Chido Obi, a striker, became United’s youngest Premier League starter at the age of 17 years and 156 days.

But the last side any manager should pit the kids against was Brentford, a superb, smart, and physically formidable team.

It’s still unclear why supposedly bigger clubs aren’t pursuing manager Thomas Frank after yet another stellar season.

Perhaps when Erik ten Hag was fired in October, United shouldn’t have been so snobbish and pushed for the Danish coach.

For United, winning the Europa League would be a major victory and grant them entry back into the Champions League.

Alejandro Garnacho of Manchester United reacts to conceding a goal.

However, aside from the money United would make, it is questionable if the team would actually want to compete in the Champions League given the possibility of humiliation for the current team.

However, after the second goal, Matthijs de Ligt left the game with an injury, further hurting Amorim on a bad day.

After receiving the captain’s armband, Luke Shaw almost had one of the most humiliating career moments when he missed a fantastic own goal because there was a lot of spin on the ball.

Shaw, who was relieved, gave himself permission to smile for a moment, but it was nothing in comparison to the smile his teammate Mount had a few minutes later.

Mount, whose only previous United goal occurred at the same stadium 13 months ago, brilliantly put Garnacho’s low cross into the corner after he was in the center of the play down the left.

To say that Mount’s United career has been erratic would be an understatement. This was his first start since the December Manchester derby.

Brentford's Kevin Schade and Bryan Mbeumo celebrate a goal.

England manager Thomas Tuchel was among the attendees, although he won’t be considering a return to the Three Lions just yet, given that Mount hasn’t played for his nation since the 2022 World Cup quarterfinal loss to France.

Shaw was fortunate earlier, but Brentford scored the goal they had been threatening, so he wasn’t quite as lucky.

The Brentford defender sprinted into the box, beat Harry Amass to a header, and Mikkel Damsgaard’s effort took a hard deflection of Shaw past a wrong-footed Bayindir after United failed to clear a long throw from Michael Kayode.

Yoane Wissa of Brentford celebrates scoring a goal.

Brentford appeared to score every time they kicked the ball into the air, and their second goal was the result of even worse defense.

Since it was not a head injury, the referee would not halt play even though De Ligt was on the ground following a challenge with Wissa.Schade got between Patrick Dorgu and Tyler Fredricson to put a header past Bayindir as United failed to handle Christian Norgaard’s cross.

Shaw and Dorgu were changed at halftime by Leny Yoro and Amad Diallo, while Christian Eriksen, who played for Brentford in 2022, replaced Mount just before the hour to a mix of cheers and jeers.

Alejandro Garnacho of Manchester United scoring a goal.

On his big day, Odi had a fantastic opportunity to score but was thwarted by a spectacular block by Norgaard, despite the fact that he did not see much of the ball.

Schade put the game out of United’s grasp with a far post header from Bryan Mbeumo’s cross shortly after Amass, who had a rough day at the back, squandered a good opportunity.

When Schade was substituted, he received a standing ovation, but the goals continued to come as Mbeumo squared for Wissa, who got a tap-in.

Diallo put a shot past home goalie Mark Flekken’s legs in the fifth minute of injury time, and Garnacho scored a good goal from outside the area.

The scoreline gave the impression that the game was tight, although it wasn’t.
