In a spectacular cameo against Athletic Club on Thursday, Amad Diallo continued his comeback to prominence for Manchester United.
This season, Manchester United’s entire Europa League knockout campaign has been legendary.
The team led by Ruben Amorim defeated Real Sociedad 5-2 on aggregate, Lyon 7-6, and Athletic Club 7-1 on aggregate.
During the victory, United had a number of exceptional players who came through to win the game and end Bilbao’s hopes right away. Amad Diallo was one of these players, and throughout his 27-minute cameo, he was perfect.
With a superb dribble down the right and a shot across the goal’s face that the Dane couldn’t miss, the 22-year-old assisted Rasmus Hojlund in scoring.
Amad posted a message to United supporters on Instagram following the game.
He added, “See you in Bilbao,” and then included a heart and a fingers-crossed emoji.
Owen Hargreaves, a legend of United, identified one player who he believed had a significant influence on the outcome in an interview with TNT Sports.
To be fair, I thought Amad’s arrival had a significant effect on the game. “He simply makes the difference,” said Hargreaves.
He continued by praising Amad for helping Rasmus Hojlund, who was having trouble, score United’s third goal of the evening.
He said, “I thought he got a tap in today and he was there, so credit to him. He doesn’t get a lot of service at times, Hojlund.”
Amad and his teammates’ strong showing has given Hargreaves optimism for the Europa League final on May 21, which would pit United against Tottenham Hotspur in an all-English match.
“It’s going to be fascinating,” Hargreaves said.
“It just shows you what this club is all about if United can win a trophy and qualify for the Champions League during a bad season.”
