Three days after his costly error in the Champions League match against Barcelona, David de Gea, the goalie for Manchester United, was spotted on a lunch date with his fiancée, Edurne Garcia Almagro. Before leaving in De Gea’s £160,000 Aston Martin, the couple had dinner in Cheshire.
The game follows De Gea’s mistake during United’s loss at the Nou Camp, where a right-footed Lionel Messi shot slid under his body. United was eliminated from the championship in the quarterfinals after Messi scored twice and Philippe Coutinho added a third goal.
In the dressing room after the game, a clearly unhappy De Gea apologized to his teammates, admitting that his error had a major effect on their hopes of moving forward. He apologized, saying that if it weren’t for his mistake, the squad could have won the tie.
De Gea obviously took the brunt of the error as he departed the field, even if the squad did not point the finger at him. Since he hasn’t signed a new five-year contract that is on the table, his future with Manchester United is still up in the air. His decision might be influenced by the possibility of missing out on Champions League play the next season, particularly because Real Madrid is still interested in the Spanish goalkeeper, who is currently in his seventh season at Old Trafford.
