At the conclusion of Manchester United’s terrible, record-breaking season, RUBEN AMORIM expressed regret to the team’s followers.
However, a few of the players who were watching the show were dissatisfied with the gaffer pulling them out in front of thousands of people.
The Red Devils defeated Aston Villa 2-0 at home to end the terrible season.
Their 11th victory of the season followed a demonstration by supporters outside Old Trafford against the owners.
After a controversially premature referee’s whistle disallowed Morgan Rogers’ finish, Christian Eriksen and Amad Diallo scored the goals.
Amorim then took the microphone on the field to speak to the audience after full time.
“First of all, I want to apologise,” the Portuguese manager declared in front of his stony-faced players in the appropriate pouring rain.
“The team’s performance was incredibly disappointing.
“Secondly, I would like to express my gratitude.
“We are very grateful for your support during the season.”
“I know it was really hard to support us in many games,” Amorim said as the microphone went in and out.
However, we must now make a decision or continue to live in the past.
“This season is done because it’s over.
“We fight each other or we stick together and move forward.”
The stadium, which has 74,000 seats, let forth enormous roars in response.
“With two wins and one draw in my first three games in charge six months ago, I told you a storm was coming,” Amorim continued.
“Today, after this disaster season, I want to tell you the good days are coming.”
And that caused yet another great cheer.
Amorim concluded: “Manchester United Football Club is the only team in the world that has demonstrated in the past that it is capable of overcoming any circumstance or calamity.
“I now want to apologize to my players as well.
“I try to always be honest with you people, but sometimes I wasn’t fair.
“Thank you very much and see you next season.”
There was thunderous ovation for the remarks from Old Trafford’s four sides.
However, many players stood nonplussed with their arms behind their backs, while others applauded his efforts.
After coming to Manchester in November to take Erik ten Hag’s place, Amorim found it difficult to improve their appalling performance.
United had their lowest position and total in Premier League history, finishing 15th in the standings with just 42 points.
The “worst United team ever” is what Amorim called his crop of failures, and their on-field exploits have supported the assertion.
The Europa League was the fallen giant’s only chance to salvage something from the season.
However, United did not show up, and they fell to Tottenham 1-0 in the Bilbao final on Wednesday.
After threatening to resign if he couldn’t improve matters, Amorim later implied that he might be prepared to leave without pay if the board decides he is no longer needed.
He then changed his mind, though, and stated that he will remain in the same position for the upcoming season.
Rather, this summer, the whole playing team is for sale.
Additionally, it has been alleged that Amorim instructed Alejandro Garnacho to look for a new team when the transfer window reopens.
